This policy explains what information the Salt & Prepper iOS app (“the App,” “we,” “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to keep it plain-language. The short version: the App works fully without an account, most of your data stays on your device, and we don’t sell your personal information.
Your recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, pantry items, and app settings are stored locally on your device. We do not receive or have access to this content unless you choose to share a recipe (see below).
You can use the App without an account. An account is required only if you choose to share a recipe. If you sign in with Sign in with Apple, we collect:
Sign in with Apple lets you hide your email address; we do not require or store your email.
When you share a recipe, a copy of that recipe (its title, ingredients, steps, and any photo you attached) is uploaded to our backend so it can be viewed via a share link. You can revoke a shared recipe at any time, which removes it and its image.
Premium subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details. We only receive Apple’s confirmation of your entitlement status.
The free version of the App shows ads through Google AdMob. We have configured AdMob to serve non-personalized ads only — we do not use Apple’s Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and do not track you across other apps or websites. Even so, to serve any ad, Google may collect limited data such as device information and a coarse, IP-based approximate location, and uses a device signal for frequency capping, fraud prevention, and aggregate reporting. See Google’s Privacy & Terms.
Some features (recipe parsing, ingredient normalization, purchase-size hints) use Apple’s on-device intelligence. This processing happens locally on your device; the content is not sent to us or to a third-party AI service.
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers needed to operate the App:
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you will be asked for consent before ads are shown, through Google’s consent flow. You can change your choices at any time using the privacy options available in the App.
On-device data is removed when you delete the App. Shared recipes remain available until you revoke them. If you created an account, you can delete your account from within the App; this removes your profile, your shared recipes, and their images from our backend. (Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription — manage that in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.)
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise deletion directly in the App, or contact us using the details below.
We use industry-standard measures to protect data handled by our backend, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
